Event: DC Fashion & Beauty Bloggers (DC FABB) Meetup
Where: One Lounge
Summary: Last Thursday, I went to my first (and definitely not the last) DC bloggers meetup. It was a blast. It is awesome to be surrounded by individuals who share the same passion as I do for blogging. As you can already tell, I suck at taking pictures of events. I gots to step my game up! For a more detailed summary (re: pictures), click on La Petite Marmoset and So Much to Smile About

It was great to meet everyone! Whenever you get the chance, please check out their blogs:

Easy & Breezy

Dress: ASOS, Sandals: Torrid, Earrings: vintage

Bag: Target

Event: Easter Sunday
Summary: Did everyone enjoy their Sunday? I did. It was just chill-with-the-fam day. I think this is the 1st Easter that we didn't go out to eat. That's like a tradition. I'm sure it'll be picked up again next year. Anywho, at first I was kinda stumped as to what I will be wearing on this day. Then I remembered this maxi dress that I got from ASOS last year. Score. First time wearing it. And I'm glad I did because it was pretty warm that day, too. The dress is so light! The colors - white and pastel - is pretty much the unofficial Easter colors. I think I did good. To offset the light colors, I wanted to go with bright accessories. In comes the purple/green earrings and orange bag (I've had that bag for about 6+ years). Finally, I opted to wear sandals. I know, I know. Platforms/heels would've put this outfit to the next level. But man, I was going for comfort. Comfort. lol. Don't worry, though, next time I'm definitely rocking the heels.

Have a great & blessed week...while looking fashionable!

Back for the First Time

Jacket: Target, Dress: Old Navy, Watch: Guess, Ring: Torrid, Sandals: Lane Bryant, Bag: Michael Kors

Summary: It was a BEAU-TI-FUL on Saturday. Despite the meteorologists predicting scattered thunderstorms during the afternoon. I'm talking about the sun came out and stayed out. So...I don't know where those weather people got their info from. Oh well. Decided to whip out the maxi dress, which has made an appearance on this blog but for another reason.

I hope everybody is enjoying the weekend, so far.

HAPPY EASTER!!!

26th Annual Art's Awards

I was trying to get a picture of an awesome painting with a full outfit picture. Sorta kinda worked.

Met a cool dude by the name of Geoffry Olisa. He is the creator of BHF magazine. He gave  us a sample of his magazine. I must say, VERY NICE! Yes, in caps. Check out the rest here: www.bhfmagazine.com.

Dress: Old Navy, Blazer/Bag: vintage, Shoes: Avenue

Event: 26th Annual Mayor's Arts Awards
Where: The John F. Kennedy Center (or just The Kennedy Center)
Summary: Short post. My sis invited me to the event. It was very interesting...in a good way. To see such talented people and the teachers that inspired them being honored was such a great feeling. You see, growing up I knew how to sing and draw. My bro & sis never fail to remind me of that. They make fun of me (almost on a daily basis) like, damn, where did your talent go? *chuckles* Even my handwriting is beginning to suck. Eek! I mean, I could still hold a tune and my drawing ain't that bad but I never honed into these talents. Never took it a step further. Never too late to try again, no? A-ny-who, the sis and I thought we were a bit too under dressed for the event until one of the winners bounded on stage rocking jeans, t-shirt and some Chucks. We felt a little better after that. There was a reception afterward with endless drinks and hor'dourves. Plus networking. My sis is a pro in that. Me? Not so much.

On to the next one...

Mix Match

Cardigan: Target, Blouse: vintage, Skirt: Forever  21+, Shoes: Torrid, Sunglasses: Lanvin for H&M, 'Scarf'= belt from a vintage dress

Necklace/Braclet: n/a, Ring: Forever 21, Watch: Michael Kors

Event: Church
Summary:  First off, not having a camera completely sucks. I always have to go the 'borrow posing' route. Which pretty much means, borrowing an item from somebody else (in this case, a camera) and pretending it's mine during that day. So sad. These past 2 weeks, I had the privilege of attending really nice events and wear really nice (well, nice to ME) outfits. But who's there to take a picture of me? No one. *sad face* In fact, I wore an outfit to one event thinking I can get someone to take my picture - I didn't. So, I wore that SAME outfit to another event about a week later thinking THIS time I will get a nice full outfit picture to post on this blog. As you can see, I didn't. *le sigh* The moral of the story is: Vivi needs a camera. Now. Anywho, back to why we're here: the outfit. This is what I wore to church and throughout the day. Mixing prints going on in the theme of white and black. I do like the whole polka dot/leopard print combination.

*sidenote: Regarding the first pic, that was my slight attempt in doing a motion pose. This is why I usually stick with my standard: hands on hip, cross legs, smile. People may call it boring. I like to call it: stick with what works. lol. But hey, I may start doing more of it just for fun. Practice makes perfect, no?

Until next time...

Melo, Melo, Melo. Eh Eh Eh.

As I have mentioned on this blog, I love the NBA. The playoffs started yesterday (04/16). But the real playoffs begins today. Why? Because Carmelo Kiyan Anthony is playing. Duh.

So, I dedicate this post to my one and only: Melo.

Because I can.

Carmelo Anthony NBA player Carmelo Anthony arrives to the T-Mobile Magenta Carpet at the 2011 NBA All-Star Game on February 20, 2011 in Los Angeles, California.
Um...at least he's cute, pt.1

Um...at least he's cute, pt 2. And what in hearty blazers does Lala got on? Eek.

Um...at least he's cute,  pt. 3

Denver Nuggetts’ Carmelo...
Aww!!!

As you can see, the man does not possess a great sense of style like say a David Beckham. But, um, at least he's cute. *grins*

But really, I like a guy that knows how to dress. That is not afraid to look good. Hmmm...maybe I can be Melo's stylist. He needs one badly, that's for sure. How can I make this dream possible?!

Go Knicks!
Go Nuggets!

Which male athlete with good style can teach Melo a thing or two?

Have a great & blessed week...while looking fashionable!

All Flowers Everything

Cape: Old Navy, Sleeveless Blouse: Target, Shorts: Torrid, Shoes: Avenue

The birthday girls: (l)Nene & (r)Zya

We all went to the same high school in Nigeria. Well, except for the lovely lady to the far left. lol.  We'll make her an honorary member.

One of these things is not like the other...

I loved that it had lil' games for the customers to play in order to win a discount. We played the "Geography O' Day".

And this was how Mr. Yogato won my heart. The original Nintendo with games ready to be played. Talk bout vintage! We wanted to play Super Mario 3 but it was acting up. So we ended up playing Super Mario 2.

Event: Birthday Brunch and other activities
Summary: Sunday was actually a packed day for me. I knew I had a birthday brunch and hitting up the Cherry Blossoms on my list. I also knew I didn't want to wear my church outfit the whole day. Especially, if walking was involved. Knowing that the sis and I were going to visit a family friend prior to heading out to DC, I packed an extra outfit and just changed over her house. The birthday brunch was so much fun! The venue was at Beacon Bar & Grill. Their food was great and so was the unlimited supply of champagne, Mimosas and Bloody Marys. *two thumbs up* Immediately after, the sis, Cee, Jessica & I headed to the Tidal Basin to check out the cherry blossoms. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the festivities that occurred throughout the two weeks of the festival (March 26-April 10) but seeing the beautiful flowers and a mixture of DC residents and tourists enjoying the scenery more than made up for it. Finally, the sis suggested that we go to her favorite yogurt place, Mr. Yogato. It is such a cute and fun eatery. It has a *sings* "everybody knows your name..." sort of vibe to it, which I loved.

Thanks for the comments and just the love for this blog! You da, you da best. *grins*

First Day of the Week

Cardigan: Old Navy, Dress: Lane Bryant, Shoes: Avenue, Bag/Belt: vintage, 'Scarf': a belt from a vintage dress

Event: Church
Summary: My church outfit. I wanted to wear something simple, no fuss. Also, wearing purple just makes everything much more awesome, no? No? Okay. Anywho, my church is collecting shoes every Sunday throughout the month of April. I thought that was pretty cool. It will be distributed not only locally (DC metropolitan area) but also to those in dire need in Dominican Republic, Kenya and Haiti. For more information click here.

Usually, I try to post on Sunday, latest Monday, so I can be like, "Have a great & blessed week...while looking fashionable!" But I missed that boat. *sad face* Well...still, enjoy the REST of the week...while looking fashionable!

Take care and until next time...

Black Out

Lace Open Jacket: Forever 21+, 'Dress' (actually a skirt)/Earrings: vintage, Shoes: Evans, Belt: Torrid

Wheee...

Me with Chuenee and Sharon

Shaking. My. Head.

Chuenee with the CLs and Chanel bag. I see you!

I may or may not have been out for the count in this pic.

Way before the drinks and the dancing started. Clearly.

Where: The Park at Fourteenth (or just Park)
Summary: I had a great time with my girls Chuenee & Sharon (I always pronounce her name similar to how Ozzy Osborne used to scream out for his wife on "The Osbournes"...remember that show?). Both have birthdays one week apart so they decided to have a joint celebration. Drinks flowing, great jams to dance to and lots of friends showing love for the two. It was a great turnout. Now, let's get down to why we're here - the outfit. When I spotted the skirt at my local vintage store last year, I freaked the eff out. It was so beautiful to me. The sheer overlay with little ribbons all over it was winner in my book. Even though it already came with a black skirt attached to it, I had to wear another black mini skirt (from Asos). This was because I pulled the skirt up to become a dress. The extra mini skirt helped to hide my assets a bit more, if you know what I mean. *exaggerated wink* My hair has been a hot ass mess this week. I've been rocking a scarf/headband and tonight was no different. I put it in a high bun and wrapped a scarf around it (not to expose the edges...which are a hot ass mess, too). Oh, and the 'scarf' is actually left over material from an Nigerian traditional outfit my sister had a while back.  Before I left, my brother (who came to visit) took a glimpse at me and was like, "Why you sportin' a beehive?" *le sigh*

On to the next one...

p.s. For DC Fashion bloggers, there is another meetup coming our way. The organizer is the lovely Jennifer of *Comme Coco*. The date is May 5th and the venue is at Coco Sala. Click here for more information on the event and also to join the group.

The Prom Dress Project 2011/DC FABB Meetup

Two great events happening in DC:

Elizabeth of So Much to Smile About, Janice of The Capitol Fashionista and a few other fashion bloggers are planning to help at least 150 teenage girls to have their own prom dresses. These are girls that due to their circumstances are not able to afford to buy or make prom dresses. The event will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Chinatown Coffee Co. from 5-8pm. They would like to receive all donations by Monday, April 18, 2011. All the information you need is on the above flyer. So, if you're a DC fashionista that hasn't thrown away your old prom dress/bridesmaid dress/formal wear dress, donate to this great cause! Spread the word around.

ALSO

There will be a DC fashion/beauty blogger meetup on April 21, 2011. It will be held at One Lounge and it's from 6-8pm. Thank you so much, Elizabeth for making this happen. This will be my 1st time going to a meetup and I'm uber excited...and a bit nervous. (I'm kind of a shy person...it takes a bit for me to warm up). If you're a DC fashion/beauty blogger, come on through. It'll be great to see all of you face-to-face. Woop, woop. To register click on this link: http://dcfabb2.eventbrite.com/.

Sugarloaf Craft Festival

A publicity photo from the website found here

There's a festival coming to the DC area. This time in Gaithersburg, MD. The Sugarloaf Craft Festival. This is their 35th annual! That's 1976, folks. #sincewerebeinghonest here, I heard about it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Basically, for those who love all things craft. From jewelry to fashion to home decor to pottery. The list goes on. Over 250 artisans will be there to sell their creation. That number freaked me out cause that can only mean one thing: it's gonna be one huge festival. Then again, it's going from April 8-10th. That's 3 days so those 250 artisans will probably be spread throughout those 3 days. That calmed my nerves a bit. Ha! (I'm weird like that).

I'll probably attend the Friday show.

Anywho, for more information go to http://sugarloafcrafts.com/festivals/gaith/spring/
