Vintage Flowers

Dress: ASOS, Belt: Dress Barn, Purse: Gucci, Shoes: Avenue
Earrings: vintage, Watch: Michael Kors

Event: Surprise Engagement Dinner
Where: Thai
Summary: I was drawn to this dress because it had a vintage look to it. Also, I've just been a sucker for flower prints. Don't know where the addiction/obsession came from but it's still going strong. Anywho, I went to a surprise engagement dinner for my friend Nene and her fiance, Bola. The food was amazing (I always get Pad Thai. Always). Fun times all around.

My favorite summer TV show premiered tonight: "So You Think You Can Dance".

I'm a sucker for dancing. I love to dance. I love to watch people dance - be it good or bad. And my future husband will be a fantastic dancer. Trust.

I'll leave you with a few of my favorite routines -

Have a safe Memorial Day Weekend!

Deep Into The News

Event: Newseum
Summary: Last Sunday, Jessica and I decided to fulfill our life long dream to visit the Newseum. All I gotta say is that this is one of THE best museums in Washington, DC. Six floors of awesome-ness. Blown away...ab-so-freakin-lute-ly blown away. Worth every twenty-one dollars and ninety-five cents. We were told by the guide that the best way to experience the Newseum is to start from the top (6th floor) and work our way down. And that is exactly what we did. Our day would've ended perfectly if we had gotten the chance to eat at Wolfgang Puck's The Source restaurant, which is next door. But it is closed on Sundays. Hmmph.

Took the Metro to the nearest stop to the Newseum.
When I got off the escalator,  I was greeted by  this open area beauty.
I am reminded almost everyday why I love DC.

Before I continue, let's talk a bit about my outfit, shall we?

Blouse: Lane Bryant, Jeans: Forever 21+, Purse: Target, Sandals:  Evans,
Scarf/Camisole: n/a, Earrings: vintage, Necklace: Forever 21

I am really into the sheer look. I totally forgot about this sheer blouse I had. Underneath, I wore a black lace camisole. At times I felt okay, at other times I felt really self-conscious. I even asked Jessica if I was exposing too much. She was like, "It's too late to change now!" But she reassured me that I was fine.

Now, back to the photos.

YouTube Love

I am an internet fiend. From entertainment websites to NBA websites to blogs and what not (let's not forget e-shopping!), I love me some Wide World Web. But what keeps me up at the wee hours of the night? Wikipedia (yes, Wikipedia) and YouTube. Click on the wrong video and I find myself watching vid upon vid for more than 5hrs. "How the freak did that happen?" I don't know but it sure was fun!

My main obsession at the moment is searching for talented people doing covers of popular songs. For now, I subscribe to two duos: Karmin and VanJess24.

VanJess24 are Nigerian-American sisters, Ivana and Jessica, from California. They sorta rose to "fame" when Perez Hilton put their cover of "Bad Romance", Lady Gaga on his blog a couple years ago. There was a point in my life when I was an avid viewer of the pink-haired man's website. Sue me. Ever since then, I became a fan of theirs. Here are my favorite covers:

I recently discovered Karmin about one month ago through Tumblr. Karmin is a male and female duo that met at college. Their cover of "Look At Me Now", Chris Brown ft. Busta Rhymes & Lil' Wayne put their name out there but from their YouTube page, this duo has been doing covers for about a year. Here are my favorite covers:

Are you obsessed with YouTube like I am? Is there someone out there that I need to listen to on my down time? Comment below. *big smile*

MISC

Blazer/Shirt/Purse/Brooch: vintage, Jeans: Forever 21+, Shoes: Avenue
Bracelet: H&M, Ring: vendor

Event: Main Street Festival
Summary: I love street festivals so I decided to check out the one in Laurel. The weather was great. Lots of people came out. Games, vendors, food (had me a good crab cake sandwich). Actually, my neighborhood is having one next month. Hopefully, I'll be taking beaucoup pictures of the event. Speaking of pictures, here are the few I managed to take of the street festival.

*I finally get to participate in the "Bloggers Do It Better" challenge. This week is Prep School. Granted, my outfit is 2 weeks old BUT I was going for the preppy look. So I qualify. *big grin*

I bought a blackberry scented car freshener. I asked the owner if I can take a picture of her stall.
She was iffy at first. After convincing her that I will not be using these pictures for evil, she finally gave in.

I was tempted to hop on and go for a lil' joy ride. But I think this was for the children.

Event: Nneka concert
Where: The Park
Summary: I've heard great things about Nneka that finally I was like, I had to hear it for myself. So, Cee and I checked out her show @ The Park. I am now a fan. I love that for her it's just about her music. She's a very talented woman. As Jay-Z would say, "After the show, it's the after party..." We took it to the 1st floor, met up with more of our friends and danced the night away. Lots of fun.

Blazer: vintage, Purse: Mulberry for Target, Pants: Forever 21+
Blouse: Old Navy, Shoes: Avenue, Necklace: my sister's
*I wished I pulled up my pants before taking this pic. It kept sliding down. Ah well.*

Cee and her bangin' outfit. I peep the leather skirt.

Event: Cultural Tourism DC's Around the World Embassy Tour
Summary: Cultural Tourism DC created Passport DC to celebrate the international culture here in the city throughout the month of May. It gives DC residents and tourists an opportunity to know a bit more about the embassies they pass each day. Participating embassies offer to educate us on their music, dance, food, etc. Each weekend an event is held. And so this past Sat, my sister, our friend, Jessica, and I decided to hit up Around the World Embassy. During this event, more than 30 embassies participated. Now, these places are spread throughout DC and we knew our time was limited to visit almost all 30 of 'em. So we decided to visit International Drive which has 10 embassies. Only 7 participated, though (we didn't get the chance to visit Bahrain).

Onto the pictures!

*Warning: This is gonna be a long ass post.

I had a fantastic time! I swear, even the moody weather (it rained) couldn't dampen our mood. So to DC residents or for anyone visiting DC this month, there are 2 weekends left so check out Cultural Tourism DC website to find out what event is taking place and GO! You will not be disappointed.

Take care and thanks for stopping by. *waves*
