Navy Blue

Dress/Purse/Belt:/Shades vintage, Necklace: Boutique in Nigeria
Shoes: Evans
Summary: Wore my recent thrift find to church this past Sunday. I was torn between wearing a belt and not wearing a belt. Wearing the belt gave the dress a little oomph (and also gave me a figure that I don't have) but it also bunched up my dress in the front. I got slightly annoyed having to straighten out my dress ever so often. Next time I wear it, it will be sans belt. Oh and I'm wearing my comfortable wedges again. You guys will be seeing that item a lot on this blog. I tend to wear the same shoes a lot, if you guys haven't noticed (and I'm sure you have). My shoe game ain't the best cause it's hard to find great shoes in my size but I'm getting there. Slowly but surely.

Until next time!

Sidenote: Never mentioned this but I have an eBay profile where I sell nice items that I do not wear or use anymore. All items are pre-owned but in good-great condition. If interested, check out my page http://myworld.ebay.com/ikevivi.

Galaxy! Galaxy!

Event: Game Night
Summary: For someone who's not a fan of the color pink (no shade to the artist named Pink...cause I'm a fan), I sure do have a lot of items in that color. I like the kimono feel of this sheer, lightweight jacket. The lace romper is also a recent purchase. The pictures don't really show it but there's a big bow in the front of the romper. And I'm now a believer of wedges. The pair that I got from Evans are so, so comfortable. I'm sold. Anywho, went to a friend's game night out in the Baltimore area. Tacos, music and drinks. We also got our own little listening party. A guy, Kelly, is an R&B artist in the making. He played two songs for us. Our own little concert. With dimmed lights and everything. The only one I remember is "Galaxy". It had a nice little tune. And it's on iTunes. I'm still searching for it, though. Lots of fun. Played Gestures for the first time and I killed it. Played Taboo and I sucked. Ha! It is what it is.

Legend

I may be a couple hours late for the tribute but still, I had to do a post on the legend that is Michael Jackson. 06/25/11 marked the 2nd anniversary of his death. Craziness. Do you remember where you were when you heard MJ died? I do. That is something I will never forget.

I will leave you with my favorite MJ songs and videos:

Songs
1) Wanna Be Startin' Something - Which also just happens to be my all-time favorite song. Ever. Like, I want it to be my wedding song. Weird, I know.
2) Beat It
3) Smooth Criminal
4) Love You Save
5) Man in the Mirror

Sculpture Garden

Event: Jazz in the Gardens
Where: Sculpture Garden located in National Gallery of Art
Summary: I apologize for the lack of updates. I was in one of those not-in-the-mood-for-blogging-nor-reading-blogs type of moods. The ones that last for about a week or two. I'm sure I'm not the only one that goes through this. But I'm out of the funk. I miss it. I have a lot of catching up to do. #leggo!
It's pretty sad that I am a DC native and this was my first time attending Jazz in the Gardens. This is an annual event that occurs each Friday in the summer. And it's free! Only catch is that you can't bring outside alcoholic beverages (I mean, they gotta make their money somehow, no?) But, um, I did a bit of sneaking to bring in my drinks. I went with my usual crew of Cee and Jessica. Zi came along later with a pal. If you guys are interested in going (and you should!), I advise that you go before 4pm to get some space. We got there a little after 5pm and it was P-A-C-K-E-D. It took us about 10/15mins to find us a lil' space in the back. Besides all of that, it was worth it.

Oh, the wonders of Twitter! A friend cc'd me on a RT asking if anyone is interested in free tickets to the BSB/NKOTB concert in DC. Now, I already went to the one in Baltimore and had a freaking blast. But who is gonna pass up free tickets to see their #1 favorite artist even if just 2/3 days prior you went to their concert? Not I. This time, I went along with Cee. Immediately after the Jazz in the Garden, we took the metro to the Verizon Center. Our seats were in an Executive Suite. Even from all the way up top, we still had a great ass time. I mean, when a concert is good, it's good. No matter where you sit.

My Closet is Happy. My Wallet is Not.

Black snake print wedge sandal -  Orange Block Heel Sandals -   patent lace up court shoes -

Since I made the decision that 99.9% of my shoes will be purchased from Evans, my life has been increasingly at ease. You see, I have weird proportioned feet. Yes, it's wide. And yes, a lot of stores offer wide feet. But it ain't wide enough for my feet. When my good family friend, Nicole of Confessions of a Naijaholic (she really needs to update that blog...I miss it), told me about Evans shoe department (up to that point I was only familiar with their clothes) and how it goes up to WW/EE and it's true to size, I was curious. Then last year she brought over two pair of shoes. I tried it on and I was sold.
*Sidenote: If you know of any other store (online or not) that sells stylish WW/EE shoes, please, don't leave me in the dark.

When I came upon these shades at Neiman's, I shrieked. Like, seriously. A loud shriek. This picture does not do it justice. I tried it on and...well, you know the rest. It's still on the website: Marc by Marc Jacobs Oversized Metal Frame Sunglasses.

My favorite recent purchase. Vintage, gold, shimmer, $6.99, print, FRINGE. I'm saving this dress for a vacation later on this year.

Another vintage find. Just a simple $3.99 navy blue dress with awesome shoulder details. It came with shoulder pads. I immediately ripped off the shoulder pads. My shoulders are already broad. I tend to do that with pretty much all my dresses/blazers that comes with shoulder pads. I don't need to accentuate my shoulders even more. Ha! Bout to look like a line backer up in this piece.

A lovely pleated orange (yes, orange...don't let this photo fool ya) swing dress that I got from TJ-Maxx. It's Calvin Klein and it has pockets.

Well, that's all folks. Until next time. Thanks for stopping by.

2nd Annual DC Africa Festival

If it's anything like the inaugural festival last year, it's going to be good. No, I predict it to be even better! I urge you guys (DMV residents and/or folks visiting during that time) to make the effort and come on down. Witness Africa's culture at its finest.

Also, the festival is still looking for DC African bloggers to showcase their blog topics, promote their blogs and of course, network with other bloggers. If you are interested in participating in this event, please send your contact information as well as a link to your blog to oaa@dc.gov.

See you there!

ASOS Curve brightens up my day. I may get some of these items pretty darn soon. It will be awesome if I could just close my eyes and cop ALL of 'em at once. But, alas, that will definitely not be the case.

Until next time...
