Pop of Blue

This is what I wore to a friend's "Girl's Night Out". It was her birthday and she wanted to spend it with her closet friends. And the people say, "Awww!!!" Since I love color but realized that I don't represent this cause enough, I paired the black ensemble with this vintage blue print jacket.

What I failed to do was take a picture of the celebrant. Whoops.

Jacket/Earrings: vintage, Dress: Forever 21+, Shoes: Evans
Ring: Lane Bryant, Watch: Michael Kors

Ijeoma and I

I really liked Ijeoma's jumpsuit that was custom made in Nigeria.

Once again, how in the hell did I forget to take a picture of the celebrant? Wowza.

Oh yeah. I'm sure you noticed the new 'do. Long braids. I did them myself. Took many, many hours. But, hey, at least I saved myself some money.

Sidenote: Check out my ebay page here. It is updated with new items that I am selling. There are pleats and midis and sheer and cardis. Mostly on trend clothing. Don't miss out! :o)

Wishing everyone a great and safe week...while looking fashionable!

I Slang in My Brown Boots

Fall arrived a couple weeks early here in the DC area and I am loving every minute of it.

Be gone, humidity!
Be gone, 10 days straight of near 100 degrees weather!
Just...be gone!

You do know that Fall is when the stylish people comes out to play. Right? I'm sure I'm not the only one that knows this. Am I? Nah. And why not when there are so many things to play with. Sweaters...cardigans...and tights...and blazers...and layering...and boots.

When Bibi of Freshly Fationishable and I decided to make our thrifting trip happen, I wanted to wear something casual and lightweight since I may or may not be trying on some clothes (remember...not a fan of trying on clothes). I wore my favorite black dress from Target. Because of the slightly nippy weather that day, I paired it with a velvet black cropped jacket. My accessories were my vintage bag that I bought from Buffalo Exchange and my H & M leopard scarf. For the feet, I went with my trusty brown ankle boots from Avenue. This was actually my first time wearing it without any tights. I don't know, I always felt that I didn't have the legs to pull it off.

Well, I really liked the bare legs with ankle boots look on me. I pulled it off. *dusts off shoulder*

I could not take my eyes off her necklace!
As soon as I saw her  I was like, I need to take a picture of  your necklace.
Guess what? She made it herself! Talented, much?

Meanwhile, she loved my bag.
I was trying my darnest to hide my chipped nails.

Dress: Target, Bag: Buffalo Exchange, Scarf: H&M, Boots: Avenue
Earrings: vintage, Watch: Michael Kors

I loved the bare legs with ankle boots look so much that I did it again the following day. I went to the International Spy Museum with Chiaka and her friend, Chioma. Yes, I'm still on my museum phase. It will never leave me! Anywho, Living Social (If you haven't signed up for Living Social, please do yourself a huge favor and sign up here! You will not regret it.) had a great deal and we decided to make use of it. It's an interactive museum. Fun and informative. Once again, taking pictures was not allowed (or as the young lady told us before entering: 'No photography'). Grr. I truly believe that pictures would have tell a better story. Ah well. Just take my word for it. It was good.

Cardigan/Belt/Earrings: vintage, Dress (originally a romper): vintage, Bag: H&M
Watch: Michael Kors, Shoes: Avenue

Okay, I called Cee up and asked what she was wearing. She was like, "I'm wearing sweatpants...a shirt. And I have flats on. I'm pretty casual." Then I came upon...this. I side-eyed her. I'm like, girl, this ain't casual! You dressed up! lolol. She laughed. lolol. She tried to convince me that her sweatpants & geek glasses made the whole 'fit casual. Hmmm. What do you guys think?

Chioma and Cee

The next stop we hit up was Red Velvet. Cee saw a great deal on Groupon (If you haven't signed up for Groupon, please do yourself a huge favor and sign up here! You will not regret it.) and decided to use it. The DC location is quite small. You just order and leave with your cupcake. This trio wanted to sit down and enjoy the cupcake. So, that was a slight bummer. Try the Vanilla Bean, Summertime and Peanut Butter Cup. Awesome! Stay away from the Cookies 'N Cream. You have been warned.

Until next time...

TV Head

The Emmy Awards was on Sunday. Did you watch? I sure did. It's my favorite award show. Yep, over the Oscars, Grammys, MTV Video Awards, etc. I love TV shows. Sorry, I should state that I love scripted TV shows. Reality shows are not my thing. I watch a couple of episodes then I get bored and annoyed. The only kind of reality shows I love are reality-competition shows - "Project Runway", "The Voice", "The Amazing Race", etc. Anywho, back to the Emmys. Jane Lynch hosted and I guess I can say she did a fair job. She wasn't no Ellen or Conan. Shoo, she wasn't even no Jimmy Fallon! At one point, I kind of zoned out. There were some memorable moments like, in the opener when Jane ran into the "Mad Men" cast. iLaugh. The ladies nominated in the Best Actress in a Comedy Series going up on stage as their names were called pageant style. This was led by Amy Poehler. Loved it. One of my favorite current shows, "Modern Family", cleaning house (yay Phil and Claire!). "The Office" skit was very funny. Kyle Chandler getting his due. Peter Dinklage winning. That's about it.

Fashion wise? The color of the night was red. The end.

Anywho, since the '11-'12 NBA season is looking like it might don't make it *silently weeps*, I can focus my attention on the Fall TV. There are a bunch of shows that look very cool and/or interesting. Since I already have a packed TV schedule (with my fav shows coming back and also catching up on some shows...ex. I'm on Season 3 of "Dexter" and Season 2 of "Breaking Bad"), I can only add just a few new shows to my list:

1) "Person of Interest" - Being a Lostie for life, I have to support Michael Emerson, he of Ben Linus fame. I can overlook Taraji being in it. There's just something about her that's annoying. I can see myself already disliking her character. Ah well. And of course, Jesus James Caviezel is it. You can't turn your back on Jesus. Besides that, the concept of the show is intruiging. The premiere is on 09/22 at 9pm on CBS.

The trailer held my attention. Besides, I want to see how Christina Ricci holds up. Also, for some odd reason, this show reminds me of how much I was obsessed with "American Dreams", a great TV show based in the '60s that was cancelled way too soon. Damn you, NBC! And long live Meg and Sam! *crickets* *awkward silence* Ahem. Moving along. "Pan Am" premieres on Sunday, 09/25 at 10pm on ABC.

I am not into prehistoric times or dinosaurs or any of that shit. But yet, I want to watch this show. Why? Because Declan is in it. Who is Declan? He was a character on "Degrassi: The Next Generation". Yeah, I used to watch Degrassi. And what. Look, I tend to support actors/actresses that move on from a show I love/loved. Luckily for me, the trailer really held my attention. I mean, this is a feat considering the setting of this show. First episode jumps off 09/26 at 8pm on FOX.

I can't even remember the last time I watched this show. Tyra Banks and her constant, unfailing need to make it all about herself. I couldn't take it any more. Earlier this year, I read rumors in some entertainment magazines that the next cycle was going to be an All-Star edition. I thought to myself that if this really happens, I will tune in. And...here we are. Even though I was kinda bummed that no one from Cycle 3 is on it, I still have some ladies on there I can root for (Lisa and Bre). The show comes on every Wednesdays at 8pm on CW.

What new show are you going to watch?

Until next time...

Sunkist

Finally got to wear my sleeveless orange Calvin Klein dress I got from TJ Maxx a while back. I wore this to a wedding last Saturday. And no, I'm not back to fully hating my arms! Trust me, I did not want to wear anything over the dress only because it was too damn hot that day. But I felt it would look better with a blazer over it. Luckily, I had a white one to layer with. I was still sweating but, hey, even without the blazer I still would've been sweating. That's my life.

Dress: TJ Maxx (Calvin Klein), Blazer/Bag/Necklace: vintage, Ring: vendor, Belt: Lane Bryant, Earrings: Target
*The picture doesn't do it justice - the dress is indeed ORANGE. You'll see it better next time...in better picture quality. I hope.

Have a great and safe weekend...while looking fashionable!

IFB Conference

Event: Independent Fashion Bloggers (IFB) Conference
Where: Milk Studios NYC
Summary: This was my first time going to the IFB Conference. It was definitely an interesting experience. Being that I'm a shy individual (no, really, I am), I used this opportunity to get out of my shell and network. Also, I wanted to hear advice on how I can be able to promote my blog more. And let me tell ya something, that is actually a hard task for me to do. Heart, Print & Style is my baby. And in some ways, I want it to stay that way. But a little part of me does want this blog to gain a bit of exposure. It was not until last month that I finally put Google Connect on my page (it's located at the bottom...so follow me if you like this blog...*gasps* Was that just me promoting my blog? Wonders shall never end...). I do have a Tumblr page but it's more focused on style, inspirational quotes and anything that makes me laugh (I have a dark sense of humor). I've had my Twitter account (follow me if you like...oh dear, there's me promoting again) for little over a year but it has NOTHING to do with HPS. Yes, even though the link to this blog is on there, I do not tweet about it. So, attending this conference was a must for this lil' ol' newbie. Did I benefit from going? I will say 'yes'. I did learn a few tricks of how to get my name out there (for example: if you use Twitter and you want to tweet about your most recent outfit, @ mention the brand(s) you are wearing. Pretty much ALL of the brands have a Twitter account). I networked my ass off *pats self on the back* Met some of my favorite bloggers and, of course, met some great people, too. I will say the age range was from 14-60ish. The fashion there was ridic! So many females and males were not playing. They came to show out. And it was fun to see.

I got there late. I walked into "Is the Social Media Industry Broken?" panel. Quite honestly, I didn't pay attention to what they were saying because I was trying to find a seat. I had also noticed that quite a number of people were standing up. For such a large conference I was puzzled as to why only about 100 seats (if not fewer) were set up. *shrugs*

This thing doll scared the shit outta me. It was from Missoni for Target (pause: 09/13/11 is the official launch! #woopwoop *air humps*). It Thing She was tweeting during the first half of the conference.

During the intermissions, IFB offered us many activities to get ourselves into. One of those activities was to get out nails minx'd out. This was sponsored by Magnum. Totally forgot to take pictures of me getting my nails did. Whoops. And taking a picture of it now will only make your eyes sore. Trust me, I'm saving you from torture.

Ms. Titilayo Bankole. She made my nails look good. Catch her at http://www.titilayobankole.com/
Magnum also gave us goodie bags and an ice cream treat. OMWord, their ice cream bar is so, so good! I had the Double Caramel and the Almond. Don't look at me like that. ( v__v)

Bobble stand. We can select any water bottle and button seen on this table. Fun note: the water bottle has a filter. Victory!
If you wanted to get your hair styled, KMS California was there to assist. For free.
I had to take a picture Katherine of La Petite Marmoset, a fellow DC FABBer and one of my favorite bloggers (no, seriously, check out her blog...amazing...a-MAH-zing style!).

Speaking of bloggers, it's time to check out some style!

Sunday Prints

Where: Tabaq/Georgetown
Summary: After church on Sunday, we decided to satisfy our hunger and do brunch in DC. Our first choice was Beacon Bar & Grill but that place was filled to the brim. Next up was Founding Farmers but they were talking about an hour wait just for walk-ins. Alrighty. Finally, we hit up U Street which is known for their numerous eateries. Our search ended at Tabaq. Now, I've been at Tabaq before - last year for my birthday. It was there that I devoured an octopus for the first time. (Look ma, I'm still alive!). We were a bit iffy about their breakfast but a nice lady sitting outside on the steps assured us that it will be worth it. And once you add in the $3 mimosoa, well, it would definitely be worth it. The food was delicious. The atmosphere was perfect. I wholly recommend this place for brunch! Two thumbs way the eff up! Once done there, it was Georgetown time for some shopping.

I gotta say it was a good Sunday with the sis.

Dress/Bag/Brooch/Belt: vintage, Shoes: Avenue
Shades: Gucci, Watch: Michael Kors, Ring: Lane Bryant

My sis!
Dress: TJ Maxx, Shoes: CL, Shades: Lanvin for H&M (mine)

Brooch - zoom effect.

Heading to Tabaq, we came upon this amazing art work in an alley. Of course, a photoshoot ensued. Not in the pictures? A dead rat. Like, this rat clearly was from NYC and hitchhiked a ride to DC. That thing was MASSIVE! R.I.P., though.

Until next time...
