What I Am Obsessing Over...TV Edition

Photo c/o NBC
I am not a fan of reality TV shows. You know, the "Real Housewives of..." and the "Basketball Wives" and "Jersey Shore", etc. I tend to watch some episodes because of my sister or friends or because my Twitter (follow me @Lavender_Chic if you like) time line makes it sound so interesting but even then I feel like I'm losing a couple of brain cells and I begin to zone out and lose interest.

B U T

I am a fan of reality competition shows. You know, the "American Idol" and "The Voice" and "Project Runway" and what have you. It's real people trying to showcase their talent, gain some exposure and eventually, win the whole shebang. Yeah, from time to time one can sense some producer manipulation in order to garner some drama for ratings. No matter how many times I've yelled out to my TV, "What the fuck?!! I'm not watching this shit AGAIN!" (ex. when Gretchen was announced the winner of "Project Runway" Season 8. Also add when Anya was announced as the winner of "Project Runway" Season 9. Grr..), I still come back for more. Why? Because I truly love these shows. Despite the judges and America weird  thought process.

Anywho, I'm blabbing all of this just to say that one of my favorite fall TV shows has just ended, "The Sing Off". TSO truly captures raw talent because this is a show searching to find the best a capella group in the country. That's right, a capella. No flashy production. No band. No pre-recorded tape. Just the singers and their voices. It is truly awesome to watch. The winner, Pentatonix, was crowned and I am beyond geeked. This group, all five of them, are just flat out amazing. All are under the age of 25 (with three just being 19!). Great singers, great musicality, great chemistry. I became a stan fan of theirs after their showstopping performance during hip-hop week in which they performed "Love Lockdown":

Ever since, they have consistently brought it. I mean BROUGHT IT. Love 'em! Here are a couple more videos of someof my favorite Pentatonix performances.

And just because, here's a performance by Vocal Point during R&B week. They performed "Every Little Step..." and absolutely killed it! It was such a unexpected yet fun number. One of my favorites from this season:

True story but I typed this whole post with a big ass cheesy grin.

Until next time...

Darkly

Blazer/Earrings/Skirt: thrifted, Top: Old Navy, Bodysuit: Lane Bryant, Shoes: Evans
Ring: Payless, Watch: Michael Kors

Wanted to do a post about my outfit. I think that's what I'll be doing for now on this blog. When I go to an event/party, I'll do two separate posts: one of the event, the next of my outfit. Yeah.

All black everything in the house! One can never go wrong with that. This time I tried to do it with different textures. I've worn the skirt before but as a dress (click here). I love this item so much because it can be worn in so many different lengths. I went midi style this time around. On the top, I wore a camisole and over it a lace bodysuit. On the lips went with a combo of MAC Rebel and MAC Cyber.

Vice...As If Launch Party

(l-r) Genevia, me, Sade

Event: Vice...As If Launch Party
Where: Topaz Bar & Lounge
Summary: I've been a reader of Vice...As If blog for quite some time. Who is behind Vice...As If? Genevia Sawyer and Sade Teyibo, two friends that bonded together over their love of fashion and style. Just like pretty much all the other blogs I subscribe to, I found the duo's blog by complete accident. Clicking one link that leads to another that leads to another and BAM! here we are. Last month, I received an email from them inviting me to their official launch party. They are now a legit brand! woop, woop. According to website, VIF "is an upscale women's and men's image and wardrobe consulting company offering an array of services." VIF also has a boutique.

I had a fantastic time! Topaz Bar & Lounge, located inside the boutique Topaz Hotel, was filled to the brim with supportive (and stylish!) DC area folks. The food was so freakin' good. Also, the bar offered a Vice...As If signature drink. Didn't get a chance to sip on it but I heard it was tasty. It was successful night. Wishing the girls the best as they step into the next phase of their life.

Work Your Wardrobe

Event: Work Your Wardrobe
Where: Urban Chic
Summary: I went to support fellow CapFABBer, Chyanne of The Yuppie Lady, at her event - Work Your Wardrobe to benefit Dress for Success. Dress for Success is an organization that promotes "...the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life." Along with the very cute and sophisticated boutique, Urban Chic, she threw an event that encouraged attendees to bring gently used professional attire to donate to Dress for Success. We were treated to champagne (four glasses for me...yep.), delicious small bites and 20% off purchase at Urban Chic Georgetown location. I had blast! I'm so happy for Chyanne because this was a success due to the INSANE amount of donations she received not only at the event but from her family, friends, co-workers, etc!

Behold, the event captured through my Evo Shift camera phone:

Art Gala on 8th

"Dress" (actually a skirt): Ross, Blazer: Vintage (Lauren for Ralph Lauren), Earrings/Belt/Brooch: thrifted
Bracelets: Lane Bryant, Sheer Tights/Head Band: CVS, Watch: Michael Kors, Shoes: Simply Be
Event: Art Gala on 8th
Summary: My sister was invited to Dance Place annual gala fundraiser. This is their 31st season! Wow. Since she knows that I love anything that has to do with dance, I was her +1.  We were treated to a silent auction, great music, open bar and yummy yummy food. Also, there were a few dance sampler classes. Texas-Two Step, Salsa, Hoop Dance and Cha-cha Slide. Rumor has it *sings*(ooooh!) Rumor has it (ooooh!) a flash mob was being planned at the gala but it didn't come to pass. *sad face* One of my main goals right now is to participate in a flash mob. So badly. Not a game.

I forgot to take it home. Whoops.
