CapFABB Meetup: American and Ice Co.

Next event was the monthly CapFABB meetup. This time, it was held at American and Ice Co. I love the outside eating area. I mean, there was an inside bar but still...outside eating area. It had long benches for the customers to sit down and pig out and ceiling fans to keep its customers cool during the hot weather. I will try my bestest to make it out there.

Another thing I'll try my bestest to do is check out Rent The Runway. RTR was the other host of this meetup. RTR is an online luxury store where you can rent from over 95 high-end designer dresses and accessories for a pretty good deal. Wear to an event you had planned to attend (be it wedding, gala, date, or just a night outta town) and once you're done, send it back to RTR (which is free, by the way). That's it. Another cool thing is that RTR will give you a backup dress in another size just so that you can choose the perfect fit. And that, too, is free. A lot of the dresses are not my size but how can I turn my back on designer bags and accessories? I just can't.

Landry Imagery Event

I attended two events yesterday. First up, Landry Imagery Event. Landry Imagery is an innovative apparel consulting and photography firm based in Washington, DC. I heard about the company from Ashley at the Violet Boutique Summer Lookbook Event. She told me that Landry was hosting an event to celebrate the release of The Seasonal Seven Lookbook which he created for both men and women. Click here to view. I liked his well thought-out Lookbook and I'm all for checking out different places in DC. So, away I went! I met up with Brea and Oby. It took place at Ping Pong in Dupont Circle. First time at the restaurant and I gotta say, it's pretty effin' awesome. The food is delicious, the drinks are superb and the prices are out of this world affordable. iApprove.

Meet Cory Landry. The man behind Landry Imagery.
He was a great host. He made it a point to greet each and every one of his guests. Had small conversations and took their business cards.
I wish him the best!

Delicious. Duh.
Once the official photos are up, I will post a link in this post.

Step Your Summer Game Up!

What good is this blog if I didn't share great stuff I see from time to time? That would make this blog a selfish blog and my blog ain't selfish!

Peeped this list from The Seventh District and I immediately *right click and save* that bad boy. Scanning through it, I've done about 5 already. I got a loooong way to go. But that's cool. I'm up for a challenge. A lot of these look doable. A few got me stumped, though. Like, "Play Post Office". The hell? Do I head to a post office and start playing in there? Do I pretend I'm a post office worker? What kinda game... But no, it's nothing like that. I Googled it. (Google is my friend. It should be everybody's friend.). Here's the legit way to play here.

Alrighty. Take a good look at the list and let's get crack-a-lackin'!

Violet Boutique Summer Lookbook Event

Despite the suffocating heat last Thursday, I made my way out to Violet Boutique for their summer lookbook collaboration event with Spicy Candy and The President Wears Prada (TPWP). For the Lookbook, hair styling was done by W Salon and makeup was done by Anna Castillo. I don't know if I mentioned it before but Violet Boutique is a such a fantastic store. Their selection is fun, yet stylish. Not one item is dull. Everything is just so bright and on trend. Loves it and will be heading back there for sure. And you should make your way over there, too. It's located in the heart of Adams Morgan. You won't be disappointed.

Anywho, I had a great time! The food was amazing. Especially, the burgers which I was told was from Bourbon. I honestly went a bit haywire for those burgers. But they were worth it.

Fashionable sisters!

Violet Boutique staff
Not only were they stylish but they were super duper nice.
Anytime they saw me dripping in sweat, they would immediately come and hand me a napkin or ask if I needed something to drink to cool me down.

Buried Alive! Tour + Girls of Plenty's Clothing Swap

Even though I don't watch "Parks and Recreation" (it seems like I should be watching it given its' critical acclaim),  I knew about Aziz Ansari and his work. I guess from MTV when he was on this show called "Human Giant". Michelle is a huge fan of Aziz and heard that his tour was making a stop in Baltimore. She asked on Twitter who was interested in going and since I've always wanted to go some kind of comedy show and I think that Aziz is pretty funny, I tweeted her back that I was. We went to the late show. When we met up, we both realized how severely under dressed we were. I was thinking more along the lines that Aziz is like this laid back guy and probably the audience would reflect that. *shakes head* Nah. Then after the opening act (which was pretty good...I wished I remembered her name), Aziz bounded on stage in this spiffy black suit. I felt dumb. *chuckles* All in all, it was a pretty good show. He talked about everything from relationships, marriage to him being a cute baby (which turns out to be pretty damn true...check out his Twitter avatar here. Adorable.) and due to this, child predators were flocking after him...waiting to get their chance (smh), his hatred for guys that wear a button down shirt (that is not, of course, buttoned up) with a backwards baseball cap in a bar, his father, music played in clubs, lack of men available for ladies and black people and their sheer excitement for magic tricks (LOL!). Glad I went. Now, I got my eyes on Kevin Hart's "Let Me Explain" concert. He's coming to DC the day before my birthday (Oct. 20th). I'll be there for that.

Can't remember if he said this was his brother or cousin. Whoops.

Yesterday was Girls of Plenty's Plus Size Clothing Swap. The venue was at The Electric Maid. Inside was nicely decorated (theme colors were black and white). There were tasty cupcakes and cake pops. Refreshing drinks. And, of course, clothes to be manhandled. We were told to drop off our clothes between 3pm and 4pm. This was to give them time to organize the contents into the right section. Once again, I went to the swap with a crap load of stuff, this time in a duty trash bag and a medium travelling bag. I didn't want to leave with clothes I really didn't need. On my list were separates (especially for work) and shoes. I came away with 3 pair of shoes (flats and heels), 1 dress and 3 tops. I did good.

Jann'l did a great job with this event.

Jann'l trying on the white lace dress I turned in.
She took it.

Royal Love

Before I begin, I heart the color purple.

The end.

No, but, really...purple is awesome. It's the color of royalty. Does this mean due to my stanning so hard for this color since the age when I started recognizing which color is which that I will be rewarded down the line with a marriage to a prince or better yet, a king? Hopes and dreams. *le sigh*

Zi and I went to Zya Felix Shopping Event at Ghana Cafe. So happy for her that it was a success. Folks streaming in and leaving with a one of a kind clutch bag. It was great to see.

With Zya

Zi bought a nice statement bracelet.

After saying our goodbyes, we skipped walked up the block to check out Buffalo Exchange. To say that we were geeked that it finally came to DC would be an understatement. I've been to a BE store in NYC, San Fran and Vegas. It was high time for the chain to come to the nation's capital. The store is well stocked with everything from women's clothing to men's clothing to shoes to jewelry and accessories. At the moment, there was a limited plus size items but the associate told me that would soon change. Woop, woop. Also, the cool thing about BE is that it's a consignment store. You bring in items that are still in great condition and on trend and BE, if satisfied, buys it from you in either cash or store credit. Ooh and there's a great deal going on for DC shoppers: $5 off next $20 purchase. Click here to print coupon.

Told you we were geeked. hahaha.

I really liked this employee's outfit.
Finally, hit up a birthday party at Donovan House rooftop and then Josephine.

Dress: ASOS via Buffalo Exchange, Shoes: Christian Louboutin, Bracelet: Zya Felix, Watch: Michael Kors

The dress came with a necktie. We both agreed it should be nixed so cut away, she did.
I suggested she should add a broach to the collar. It really worked with the look.

Bodysuit/Skirt: ASOS, Shoes: Torrid, Necklace/Cuff/Ring/Bag/Earrings: sister's (LOL!)
 Have a great week, folks!
