ModCloth's Uniquely You Campaign

The Story of Citrus Dress in Black

ModCloth's Uniquely You Campaign by vivi-i featuring gold jewelry

Modcloth, the very popular vintage online store, recently invited me to join their Uniquely You campaign. I was provided with a link to an item that I would style using pieces currently sold on their site. The item - The Story of Citrus Dress in Black.

This dress has a retro feel so my goal was to bring it into the modern times; knock out the retro-ness of the dress, so to speak. My first styling choice was to do a complete monochrome look. But I quickly decided that wasn't the best direction. Instead, I would use pops of color - and by that I mean use neutral colors as the 'pop' - to give the dress some character. The neutral colors in this look are black/white stripes, cognac, and gold.

I honestly didn't create a story or a theme to inspire me towards finalizing this look. I just envision myself with the dress in my possession and thought, "How would I style this dress for me?" Now looking at the finished styling, I can see that the dress is versatile enough to wear during the day (Swap the strappy heels with a pair of black pointy heels), at night (keep the strappy heels), and even on a weekend (Again, swap the strappy heels with a pair of flats or wedges).

The best part about this dress, and really majority of ModCloth's dresses, is that it comes in both straight and plus sizes. That's pretty awesome.
