Off the Grid

Fall is around the corner and I am too effin' geeked. The best season is upon us. Breathe it in, breathe it all in. Doesn't it smell lovely?

I'm already dressing like it's cool outside. My mind has completely shut out Summer. Completely. I'm in the Fall zone, my friends. Take for instance the outfit in this post. The jacket definitely wasn't needed on the day I took these photos. But I was pressed to rock it because 1) I bought the thrifted (yes, thrifted) swing jacket during the early summer season and have been itching to wear it since and 2) it's come to a point when I'm wearing a print I have want to mix it up with another print item. So what better way to achieve this goal then to pair the jacket with the Target floral top. It just made sense.

I decided to have a little fun with the Avenue flare skirt. I noticed that the skirt had potential to be worn in many ways and at any length. In this post, the skirt is worn at its given length which is slightly below the knee. I went with a complete work wear look due to this length. With the stretchable waistband and breathable material, this skirt is all about comfort while still having a sense of style. The 'fun' part appears in the next outfit post when the skirt gets a complete makeover. Be on the look out.

Emmy '14

Lizzy Caplan in Donna Karan Atelier
She may not have won an award last night but she definitely won my award for Best Dressed.
Lizzy looked absolutely amazing. Beautiful. Dramatic.
The perfect dress to make a statement.
Lizzy has officially arrived.

Now the awards season has officially begun. Everybody, please welcome the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards! I love this time of the year. Even though it came roughly about a month early and on a Monday. But who cares. It's the Emmys!

VMAs '14

Beyonce in Nicholas Jebran (left) and Zuhair Murad (right)
Let's start off with the Lady of the Night.
Not a fan of either dresses...or earrings.
The burgundy dress has potential.
But the fabric of the main panel looks cheap and doesn't gel well with the beautiful, intricate design of the side panels.

As I mentioned on the blog's Facebook page, I'm never impressed with the VMAs red carpet. Yeah, it's a lighthearted affair so no need for the frou frou dresses and three-piece suits but still, y'know, step it up a bit. This year's showing pretty much left me underwhelmed...

...Much like the main show. Blah. I'm over here racking my brain trying to remember a performance, any performance, that stood out. Besides, Beyonce...I guess. The 'I guess' part is mainly because I wished she played out the songs a bit longer especially the ones I'm fond of like "Mine", "Drunk in Love", "XO", and "Partition". But time was limited and, I mean, she did perform all of the tracks from her latest album, Beyonce. So, I'll let her be. Bey won the special award of the night - Vanguard Award. At the end of her performance, Jay-Z and Blue came on stage to present her the award. A cute moment.

Let's begin the red carpet commentary, shall we. But, of course.

Dopeciety Trunk Show

I met Denisio for the first time at a  Violet Boutique event a couple years back. I remember being drawn to her color gems embellished skirt. I approached her asking where she purchased the skirt and was surprised to find out that she actually made the skirt. Talk about talent! So when 8-Vintage (a collaboration with Krystin) and, later on, Dopeciety popped up on the scene, I wasn't surprised Denisio was behind it. Her love for all things vintage and unique were clearly on display through her two companies.

While 8-Vintage is no more, Dopeciety is still here and hotter than ever.

Fia's Fabulous Finds

For the past couple of months, I always get an email from Fia's Fabulous Finds about their VIP Fill a Bag for $20 Basement Sale. Each and every time, I make a mental note to go but then something or another comes up (And that would be just me being lazy). This time around, I finally got the chance to go. It also helps that it's pretty close to my workplace.

Fia's Fabulous Finds is an upscale consignment boutique offering quality brand name ladies' clothing and accessories. These items are gently used but in impeccable condition. From outside, it looks fairly small but once you enter inside you'll see three fairly sizable rooms filled with clothing, shoes, and accessories. There's also a dressing room. And, of course, the basement where the Fill a Bag for $20 event is usually held.

I had the opportunity of chatting with Fia who, despite being heavily pregnant, was all energy and smiles. She's very passionate about vintage, a hobby that soon became her livelihood. While she is a boutique owner, she's also an event planner on the side.

This will not be the last time I visit Fia's Fabulous Finds. I did manage to cop a few items at the event that I'm pretty sure you'll see on this blog fairly soon. The only bummer about Fia's is the lack of plus size items. The sizes it currently offers are 0-16, XS-XXL*. And even the size 16s/XXLs were few and far between. I asked her why this was the case and she explained that she looks hard for plus size items but has yet to find any that's a good fit for her store. She's definitely open to plus size customers bringing in their current, gently used items so she can have a look. And if she likes what she sees, she'll buy it from you! I mean, Fia's Fabulous Finds is a consignment store, after all.
