Yes, show that leg!
Noticed a lot of emerald green accessories to complement the black dresses.
Never thought of that combo, to be honest.
Now, I'm intrigued.

I try really hard to not to let the first post of any year on this blog be an awards show recap. Pretty sure you guys wanna see my pretty ol' face first before diving head on to celebrities and what they wore, right?

Right?!

The televised show was on Sunday and hosted by Seth Meyers. Seth had a difficult task at hand - the lady stars used the evening's platform to shine a bright ass light on the sexual harassment cases popping up left and right in Hollywood. And not only sexual harassment and sexual assault, but damn near the disrespect of women in the industry, especially when it comes to pay gap (men getting paid more than women despite the women having longer expertise and success, see: Sadler, Cat). So we have Seth here having to create a monologue that skirts the issue without coming off cheesy and awkward. I think he did a pretty good job.

Back to the lady stars. In partnership with Time's Up, they chose to wear black in solidarity of the women who raised their voices to speak out against these quote-unquote powerful men who misused their position. Also, some of the ladies brought along women activists outside of the Hollywood industry who continue to do their part in their respective avenues. I liked how Tom & Lorenzo featured the duos while still politely critiquing the celebrities looks: Emma Watson and Marai Lasai, Michelle Williams and Tarana Burke, Laura Dern and Monica Ramirez, Meryl Streep and Ai-jen Poo, Amy Poehler and Saru Jayaraman, Susan Sarandon and Rosa Clemente.

And that's what I plan to do here - politely critique the looks that caught my interest. Because, honestly, the red carpet fashion was just okay. Not because of the movement. Oh, no! A lot of the ladies still stepped on the carpet with their fashun looks. As Kerry Washington stated, "We shouldn't have to sit out the night. We shouldn't have to give up our seat at the table because of bad behavior that wasn't ours." Yep, the ladies were going to be seen, dammit. But as with every other recap I've done, some will be hits and some will be misses. Or in this particular case, meh.

Alrighty, alrighty. I'm almost done. Gotta do my usual congratulations. So a woop woop to Sterling K. Brown, Rachel Brosnahan, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Aziz Ansari (Sidenote: While I'm happy for his win I don't get the hype for his acting skills. It's quite subpar, really. He's charming, no doubt. But...that's about it. Love his show, tho!), Laura Dern (who's dating Baron Davis, by the way, and this tickles me to no end), Nicole Kidman, Big Little Lies, Allison Janney (there's only one movie from last year that I want to see and that's I, Tonya), The Handmaid's Tale, Elisabeth Moss, and Alexander Skarsgard (what a fine fine man).

Okay. Fashion time.

Listen. This is the best I've seen Mariah in a very, very, very long time.
Wow.
Thank you, Law Roach, for styling her.
She needed you.
Noah Schnapp in Balmain
So dapper.
Diane Kruger in Prada
Alexis Bledel in Oscar de la Renta
Reese Witherspoon in Zac Posen
Saoirse Ronan in Atelier Versace
Futuristic perfection.
Tracee Ellis Ross in Marc Jacobs
Not feeling the dress mainly because of the fabric.
The sheen and draping reminds me of a satin bedsheet.
However, the headwrap, earrings, and makeup are all winners.
Viola Davis in Brandon Maxwell
Looking like a star!
The necklace was so not needed.

And we end this post with the one and only, Ms. Oprah Gail Winfrey.

She's holding in her hand the Cecil B. Demille Lifetime Achievement award for her all-around work as a television host, actress, producer, CEO, and owner of a television channel. She's the rightful Queen of All Media. Her acceptance speech was one for the ages. It had people exclaiming 'Oprah 2020'. Please, leave that woman alone about some presidency and focus on the shithole that's happening right now in the White House.

Anywho, I wanted to share her whole emotional speech but instead I'll leave you guys with my favorite quotes from said speech:

"For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dare speak the truth to the power of those men. But their time is up! Their time is up! Their time is up."

"What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have."
