Emmys '19

Zendaya in custom Vera Wang
Best Dressed of the Night.
And it wasn't close.
Poison Ivy realness.

And we're back to recap one of my favorite awards show to watch - Emmy Awards.

There was no host this year and I guess it turned out good, for the most part. A lot of great wins, though: Jharrel Jerome winning Lead Actor in a Series/Limited Movie for portraying one of the Exonerated Five on When They See Us; a surprise win for Julia Garner for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, which I'm okay with cause she's really is the best thing on that Ozark show (yet to watch the season 2...and probably won't); Jodie Comer winning for Lead Actress in a Drama Series even though this win came a year late. Jodie is really the main reason why I watch(ed) Killing Eve. And as much as I heart Sandra Oh and I'm happy for her wins, it was odd how Jodie was overlooked; Billy Porter for being the first openly gay black man to win Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his work on Pose. "This category is LOVE!". Indeed, Billy. Indeed.

Alrighty. Let's get into why we're here. FASHUN.

Catherine Zeta Jones in Georges Hobeika
Love the negative space neckline.
And the color is beautiful.
I've been seeing an uptick on matching the shoes with the dress.
And I'm here for the trend.

Jameela Jamil in Monique Lhuillier
I like when I see a color that goes against the typical 'fall color'.
A big no to the matching clutch.
Also, I know it's her thang but I'm tired of seeing her with bangs.

Regina King in Jason Wu
Despite looking amazing in the dress, there are some details that are making my eye twitch.
Like the holster bodice.
And the unfinished hem.
Not a fan of the hairdo, either.

Mandy Moore in Brandon Maxwell
Pink + Red were THE color combination of the night.
I felt like Mandy had the best interpretation.
The '70s news reporter hairdo and harsh makeup isn't doing her any favors, though.

Susan Kelechi Watson in Badgley Mischka
The oversized ties were not necessary, especially given the overly puffy sleeves.
Honestly, the dress is just okay.
But I'm giving her shine #onhere because she was robbed of an Emmy nomination.
ROBBED.

Niecy Nash in Christian Siriano
Pretty dress, great matching turban, just a smidgen too much boobage.

Julia Garner in Cong Tri
This dress sang on stage when she was presented her Emmy award.
GORGEOUS color.
Do not like the side cut-out. An unnecessary detail.
Earrings were needed.
And why black platform heels, tho?

Maisie Williams in custom JW Anderson
The side of her dress is vomiting.
But it does add some interest.

Billy Porter in Michael Kors Couture
Not feeling the suit. At all.
Billy has worn much better - and brighter - suits.
No. That swoosh of a hat is the star of this entire outfit.

Let's end this post with a photo of cast members from one of the best shows of all time. Yes, the last two seasons were frustrating. And the series finale was underwhelming as hell. But dammit, it's been a while since a show has made me so passionate. Made me STAN. Made me read theories. Made me hold on to magazines because they were on the cover. Shit, I even bought the whole book series because of this damn show! LOST will forever be my #1 but Game of Thrones came pretty damn close.
