I've always liked the effect of wearing a longer layer over something shorter be it a dress, a skirt or shorts.

Who knew a knee length black vest and a floral dress can work so nicely together?
Especially, given the vest is a bit masculine. You can easily imagine the vest paired with a button down striped shirt, skinny pants, and some oxfords. Easily.
