Let's Get to Work!

I had a fantastic time at this year's Fashion of Goodwill Runway Show. The theme was "Let's Get to Work!"

It highlighted the success of Goodwill of Greater Washington's partnership with Washington Marriott Marquis in creating the "Washington Marriott Marquis Training Program". The purpose of the program was to prepare and train up to 600 DC residents for jobs at the new Marriott Marquis (which opened May of this year). The program was assisted by Grow LLC, Progressive Partners, ONE DC, United Way, and the University of District of Columbia.

We enjoyed cocktail hour featuring open bars and buffet racks filled with delicious dishes. During the cocktail hour, we had the opportunity to shop at their Edited for Goodwill Trunk Show. Even though I didn't come home with anything, many of my friends did. I'm talking about each hand carrying a-filled-to-the-brim Goodwill bag. Lucky folks.

Me want in my life.
A legit mink fur stole.
I kept touching the faces, checking to see if the foxes were once alive.
They were.

The fashion show was a lot of fun. The DJ spun some great tunes from Prince's "Kiss" to Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" to Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". I was straight dancing in my seat. Each song brought about a different runway theme. After the show was over, we hightailed back to the shopping area to get our hands on some of the clothes that came straight off the runway. Another option was to shop the runway clothes at their online auction.

Before the show.
We gave a standing O to the employees of  the Washington Marriott Marquis who were hired from the training program.
They took the stage and gave us their own fashion show, each wearing head to toe items from Goodwill.
The finale.

Each year, the Greater Goodwill of Washington team raises the bar when it comes to their Runway Show event. I always enjoy myself and it's such a perfect event to catch up with many of my blogger friends.

I can't wait to see what the organization has in store for next year.
